Three Subtle Features You Should Always Prioritize In Your First Apartment

Finding the right apartment for you can be a bit of a balancing act that many newcomers to the property market don't quite realize yet. After all, there are a lot of factors to consider but many people only look at the price and main features (bedrooms, bathrooms, living space, etc). There is a lot more to picking a place you will live for the foreseeable future than just that but in the heat of the moment that can get overlooked. Here are a few features you should prioritize when you are hunting for your first apartment, whether you are in one of the major cities or a smaller town.

Neighbors

Your neighbors can have just as much an impact on your ability to enjoy your apartment as anything else. Having good, respectable neighbors who you know and like can make an average apartment feel like the height of luxury. If possible, try to rent an apartment in the building you are looking at for a night or two to see what it sounds like and how everyone acts when tours are not scheduled. Also, consider the upstairs neighbors as well, not just those that are on the same floor as you.

Proximity To Needs

The location of your apartment can save you a lot of money or it could cause you to pay a lot more in daily living expenses. If you are constantly having to drive miles away to pick up food, essentials, go to work, or even see your friends, then you need to add that into your budgeting. A centrally located apartment might seem more expensive, but when you consider the tertiary costs that you save money on, it often comes out to a better deal. More centrally located apartments are also the ones more likely to rise in value, so it makes sense as a better investment.

Storage Space

For most people, apartment living will require you to be quite savvy about how you use your storage space seeing as there is generally not a lot of it. An apartment that comes with extra cupboards, clever storage solutions, and the ability to customize the layout of certain rooms should be much more attractive to a first-time apartment renter. It many not be the sexiest feature that you can find, but it will be one of the most useful at keeping your apartment looking neat and tidy for years to come.
